Going to Court

If you have been the victim of crime or witnessed a crime, you may be required to attend court as a prosecution witness.

Having to appear at court can be quite daunting and difficult especially if it is your first time, however our service can ensure you have the appropriate support and guidance that you need. Our Victim and Witness Support Officers can provide support throughout the journey from the first court hearing and beyond should you feel the need

Support at court If your case is going to court your Victim and Witness Support Officer will get in touch and provide information about if you are required to go to court and when this will be. We will agree a contact plan with you up until the date of court.

Responding to your needs – Our Victim and Witness Support Officers will make sure you if need special measures when you are at court that this has been discussed with you. This might include screens, tv links to make giving evidence easier for you. They will also discuss referring you for a pre-trial visit so you can familiarise yourself with the court beforehand.

Attending court – On the day of court, the Victim and Witness Support Officer will make sure there is someone from the witness service there to meet you and support you on the day if you need it.

The outcome – After court you will be provided with information about the outcome and offered any additional support you might need.
